First grade music students begin to read rhythmic and melodic music notation. They continue to sing and play games from various cultures. They draw from their growing repertoire to learn concrete musical concepts. 

 

 

First grade music students will:

 

• Read, write, derive, and perform songs with the notes so-mi and rhythms ta (quarter note) and ti-ti (eighth notes).
   

• Play simple songs and improvise on pitched and non-pitched instruments.
   

• Play singing games from various cultures.
   

• Create movements to music that reflect focused listening. 
   

• Perform two part material.
