In second grade music, students sing and play different types of forms, canons and ostinati (repeated musical patterns). They add to their repertoire of rhythmic and melodic concepts, and they begin playing keyboards.

 

 

Second grade music students will:

 

• Read, write, derive, and perfom songs with the notes la-so-mi and rhythms ta (quarter note), ti-ti (eighth notes),     and rest (quarter rest).

• Sing partner songs and canons in two to three parts.

 

• Sing and play folk songs, dances, and games from around the world. 

 

• Identify simple musical forms.

 

• Learn about instrument families.

 

• Read music and improvise on Bacich keyboards.
